Winter is not my favorite season, but I still look forward to January every year because I can’t wait for Feelin’ Blues here in Tel Aviv. I feel so lucky that an international event of this caliber is walking distance from my house!
Needless to say, I’ve been to the festival every year (2015 will be its 4th time around), and it somehow manages to top itself every single time. I imagine this year we’ll have private unicorns as rides to the parties, otherwise I don’t know how they’re going to do it again. If you’d like to hear what last year was like, you’re welcome to read my post about it.
The parties at this event mean business and go all night long. Just check out this video of one of the crazy parties where the dancers and musicians jammed together for hours:
Plenty of great teachers at this year’s event: Shawn Hershey & Mike Legenthal, Brenda Russell, Justin Riley, Adamo Ciarallo & Vicci Moore, Ksenia Parkhatskaya, and Ron Dobrovinsky & Sharon Guzman. There will be 4 levels of classes as well as a Solo Blues track. As for competitions, there will be an advanced and open Jack & Jill, Solo and Showcase.
There are plenty of affordable airlines that fly to Tel Aviv and finding a deal for January should be pretty easy. Once you have your ticket and start looking for a place to stay, worry not! The Israeli Blues scene is very hospitable and always opens its homes to visiting dancers looking to be hosted.
It’s no secret that Israel is not the top tourist destination at the moment given the past summer’s events, but I assure you all is safe nowadays and we’re going about normal life. If things were even remotely dangerous I would never try to convince anyone of the opposite. In any case, Tel Aviv is generally out of harm’s way even when situations get tense.
Speaking of Tel Aviv, have I mentioned the sunny winter days, the beach and the charming small town feeling? There’s so much to see and do if you have a few days to spare before or after the festival.
If you’re a Blues dancer, I hope to see you at Feelin’ Blues 2015. Early bird prices are available till November 15th, so you better get on it! Be sure to let me know if you’re coming and save me a few dances!
